The driving experience may be average on the whole but the new Nissan Leaf is a quiet and comfortable enough electric car. It’s also pretty plush inside and the range on a full charge of the battery looks competitive against rivals. If it's well priced, the Leaf could be an enticing proposition.
The trim
Tekna is too pricey to really recommend, although it does add leather/suede seats, a Bose stereo, LED headlights, an electronic parking brake and a driver assistance system called Pro Pilot, which can take care of the steering in certain situations (such as motorway driving) while keeping you a set distance from the car in front.
The engine
The 39kWh battery version has a perfectly respectable 0-62mph time of around eight seconds. Officially the range is 168 miles on a full charge, but in our Real Range testing we managed just 128 miles.
