Not only does the Peugeot 2008 look the part (both inside and out), it's also well equipped and has a range of punchy, efficient petrol engines. That said, the Ford Puma and Skoda Kamiq are better all-rounders, as is the Audi Q2 if you want a premium badge.

If you can, we’d recommend paying a little extra and going for the mid-range Allure Premium trim. It gives you everything you get with Active Premium but with 17in alloy wheels, smarter seats, privacy glass, sportier styling, an upgraded automatic emergency braking (AEB) system and a rear-view parking camera.
