Review

The Peugeot 5008 is stylish, practical, good to drive and one of our favourite large SUVs. It's relatively affordable to buy and run, especially if you go for the entry-level 1.2-litre Puretech 130 petrol engine. If you need even more space the Kia Sorento is an even better bet.

get the best price

The entry-level version is well worth a look. You get seven seats, driver's lumbar adjustment, auto lights and wipers, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, LED dipped headlights, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, 17in alloy wheels, keyless start, two-zone climate control and power-folding door mirrors. On top of that, there's an 8.0in infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, a DAB radio, six speakers and Bluetooth.

You might be suspicious that the entry-level 129bhp 1.2-litre engine is too small but it’s eager to rev and packs enough punch for most people's performance needs. It takes 9.9sec to get from 0-62mph and with plentiful low-down shove it feels far stronger on the road than those numbers suggest. It's available with a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional slick eight-speed auto.
