Review

The Peugeot 5008 is stylish, practical, good to drive and one of our favourite large SUVs. It's relatively affordable to buy and run, especially if you go for the entry-level 1.2-litre Puretech 130 petrol engine. If you need even more space the Kia Sorento is an even better bet.

The top-spec trim adds (on top of GT trim) a 360-deg camera, a hands-free tailgate, heated front seats, a massaging and electrically adjustable driver's seat, a premium Focal sound system and 19in alloy wheels.

You might be suspicious that the entry-level 129bhp 1.2-litre engine is too small but it’s eager to rev and packs enough punch for most people's performance needs. It takes 9.9sec to get from 0-62mph and with plentiful low-down shove it feels far stronger on the road than those numbers suggest. It's available with a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional slick eight-speed auto.
