As with the regular Cayenne, the biggest strengths of the Coupé are its handling and performance. In fact, the GTS, which is the sweet-spot in the range, offers about as much fun as you can have with a car that's this tall and heavy. And, while the Cayenne Coupé is not as practical as its squarer stablemate, it will still meet the needs of most families.

Our favourite trim comes with everything the standard Cayenne Coupé has, plus 21in black alloy wheels, Alcantara and leather seats, a sports exhaust, 20mm lower sports suspension, bigger brakes and styling upgrades.

The pick of the range is the Cayenne Coupé GTS, which straddles the fine line between sensible SUV and bonkers sports SUV. It uses a 454bhp 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol that’s more than powerful enough to beat most rivals away from the traffic lights and its 0-62mph time is just 4.5sec. The V8 sounds great, too, especially with the standard sports exhaust, but don't expect much more than 20mpg on a run.
