While we can see the appeal of the Captur’s funky looks and affordable starting price, by the time you get an engine with enough power coupled to the right trim, it's not that cheap. And all the engines are relatively weak next to those offered in the better-handling and better-packaged Ford Puma; it doesn't ride anywhere near as well as a Volkswagen T-Roc; plus, if it's space you're after, the Skoda Kamiq is much bigger and has a nicer interior.get the best price

Opening the range is the TCe 100, a 99bhp turbocharged 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol that comes exclusively with a five-speed manual gearbox. Sadly, if you're hoping for the kind of peppiness you get from a similarly powerful Seat Arona, Skoda Kamiq or Volkswagen T-Cross (they all share the same 1.0 TSI 95 petrol engine) it's disappointingly sluggish. There's very little urgency unless you work it hard, it's noisy when you do and also not that economical. Therefore, it's one to avoid.
