Review

It might not be the most fun or comfortable small car, but the Clio continues to be a great all-rounder. The frugal E-Tech hybrid version will appeal to company car users, but the TCe 100 petrol is our pick. Stick with the mid-range Iconic trim and you’ll have yourself a very well-priced and practical family car, although interior quality and the infotainment system can’t compete with its german Volkswagen Polo rival.

get the best price

Second rung Iconic trim is our favourite; it gives you rear parking sensors, keyless entry and the 7.0in touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

This hybrid model combines a 1.6-litre four cylinder petrol engine with a pair of electric motors and a relatively small battery. It’s a well refined and punchy engine, but it only achieved 51.6mpg when we put it through our scientific True MPG test. That’s not only down on Renault’s claimed figure of 64.2mpg but also on the Toyota Yaris’s 60mpg True MPG test result.
