Espaces are reasonably priced, good discounts are available from UK dealers (with bigger deals offered from brokers and internet sites) and all but the V6 hold their value well. The 2.0 and 2.2 TD also give good economy and are no more expensive to maintain than a family saloon. However, insurance is much costlier. A three-year warranty is standard.
Renault Espace MPV quality & reliability
Renault mechanicals endure well with routine maintenance, although Espace electrical glitches are not unknown. The cabins have big areas of cloth trim to break up the plastic and look durable and attractive. However, they can scuff easily, which is always a concern with a family transporter.
Renault Espace MPV safety & security
The Espace lacks deadlocks, and the last time we tested it, we broke in in less than 30 seconds and drove it away. Face and side airbags in the front, anti-lock brakes and a four-star Euro NCAP crash test rating make it safe, though the absence of side curtains and a three-point centre rear belt means rear passengers aren't well served.
