The Mégane RS isn’t the fastest hot hatch in the world, but it’s great fun to drive and cheaper than most rivals

Trim: MEGANE R.S.

Standard equipment is pretty generous, with climate control, LED headlights, rear parking sensors and keyless entry and start all included. But we’d recommend adding the optional Safety Pack Premium, which includes automatic emergency braking.

Engine: 1.8 280

Whether you stick with the standard suspension or upgrade to the optional Cup chassis, the Megane RS has a 1.8-litre petrol engine that produces 276bhp in ‘standard’ form. The 0-60mph sprint was dispatched in a respectable 5.9sec in our tests, although the Honda Civic Type R and Volkswagen Golf R are even quicker.
