The driver sits high, but there's two-way steering adjustment to make it easy for all to get comfortable. Forward vision is fine, but there are blindspots over the shoulder and to the rear. The controls are well laid-out and easy to use, but the five-speed 'box in smaller-engined models is slicker than the six-speeder fitted higher up the range.
Renault Megane Coupe space & practicality
The back seats are just about useable if your passengers are Lilliputian in proportions, but don't try squeezing full-grown adults in there. The boot is large until the roof folds into it – then there's just enough room for three average-sized weekend bags.
Renault Megane Coupe equipment
Every model has an electrically folding glass roof. Base-level Extreme has a radio cassette player, alloy wheels and body-coloured heated door mirrors. Dynamique trim adds air-conditioning, lumbar adjustment on the seats and the option of an automatic gearbox with manual override. Top-spec Privilège adds climate control, a CD multichanger and part-leather upholstery.
