Review

The E-Tech plug-in hybrid makes some sense to company car users or those private buyers who can make full use of its all-electric potential, and is reasonably priced for a PHEV. The load bay of the E-Tech is slightly bigger than the Ceed Sportswagon’s, while rear seat space is unimpressive. It’s disappointing, too, that automatic emergency braking comes as standard only on the top trim level.

Entry-level Iconic is well equipped with standard 16in alloy wheels, electric heated folding mirrors, LED front and rear lights, auto lights and wipers, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic main beam, a 7.0in digital driver’s display, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, switchable driving modes and ambient lighting plus a 7.0in touchscreen infotainment system. This comes with a DAB radio, sat nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Offering around 30 miles of electric-only range, the PHEV version delivers low emission figures that mean it sits in the same cheap BIK tax band as most of rivals, making it a good option for company car owners. Around town, the electric motor is responsive and transitions smoothly to combined power, but once the battery is drained, MPG figures are nothing special.
