SUVs being all the rage, it's no surprise to see that the Renault Scenic incorporates elements of that style and design language within its five-seat compact MPV bodyshell.

This, Renault hopes, will help to separate the Scenic from its main rivals, because it faces stiff opposition from other MPVs including the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and Citroën C4 Picasso.

The Scenic may look different, but the engines are shared with a number of other cars from the French company. They comprise a 1.3-litre petrol with two power levels, plus a pair of diesel engines. You can even get a mild hybrid if you want the lowest CO2 emissions possible.

All variants get electric windows, air conditioning, a DAB radio and giant 20in wheels. Crucially, all receive automatic emergency braking and score the full five stars in Euro NCAP crash testing.

Over the next few pages, we’ll let you know how it performs on the road, what its practicality is like, how much it’ll cost and which version is best.

And if you do decide the Scenic is for you, visit our new car deals page to find some tempting discounts.
