Lease the battery and the Renault Zoe is one of the most recommendable electric cars, thanks to its low price, healthy real-world range and fairly big boot. We'd go for the more powerful R110 version in Dynamique trim.

Trim: Dynamique Nav

Well equipped with 16in alloy wheels, keyless entry and go, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear parking sensors, a DAB radio and sat-nav. We'd recommend adding a reversing camera and heated front seats, both of which are reasonably priced options.

Engine: 65kW

Performance is surprisingly nippy around town, but above 40mph the Q90's acceleration quickly starts to tail off, whereas the more powerful R110 will get you up to 70mph noticeably more swiftly. Given that the later is cheaper to buy, it's where our money would go.
