Review

The Renault Zoe is great value, fairly practical and has a long range between charges. Its flawed driving position and less comfortable ride make the Peugeot e-208 a better buy, though – assuming you can live with the e-208's slightly shorter range.

Play trim is available only with the lower-powered R110 motor, so is the cheapest way into Zoe ownership. It comes with the 7.0in infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring as standard, plus a DAB radio and two USB sockets. Driving tech includes cruise control, although you have to do without some important safety kit, including automatic emergency braking. This is the only trim that can’t get the optional fast 50kW DC charging.

This is the less powerful of two electric motor options. Around town, acceleration is perfectly nippy, but the more powerful R135 will get you up to motorway speeds quite a bit quicker. Still, for most people the R110 will be all you need, and because it’s cheaper it’s our pick of the two.
