Which used Skoda Fabia hatchback should I buy?
In 2016 Skoda offered two turbocharged 1.0-litre engines, one of 94bhp and the other of 109bhp. Our favourite is the lower-powered variant, known as the 1.0 TSI 95, which is certainly quick enough and very economical, with a claimed average of 64.2mpg.
The base S trim is a little too basic, in our opinion, missing out on air-con and alloy wheels. Our pick is SE trim, which gets those features plus parking sensors and a 6.5in colour touchscreen with Smartlink, through which you can use mobile phone apps and sat-nav. It also gets an automatic emergency braking system.
In tests that assess how well cars resist being broken into and driven away, security firm Thatcham has rated the Fabia highly. It achieved the maximum five stars in the drive-away test and an impressive four stars out of five for resisting break-ins.
A facelift in 2016 brought the 1.0-litre engine variants in to replace the 1.2, and one or two minor cosmetic and trim updates.
