It’s possible you haven’t even heard of the Skoda Rapid, despite the fact that the only other Skoda to outsell it worldwide is the larger Octavia. It’s offered as either a saloon or the Spaceback hatchback version we’re focusing on here.
In the UK, the Spaceback plugs a small gap in the market for those who want a smaller, cheaper alternative to the Octavia, but need a bit more room than the smaller Skoda Fabia. This basically puts it into competition with cheaper versions of the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and Nissan Pulsar.
The Rapid is available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines as well as three different trim levels. We’ll tell you what the Rapid Spaceback is like to drive and how it rates against its rivals over the next few pages.
