The Subaru Forester is a capable off-roader but most SUV rivals are bigger, cheaper and more fuel efficientread the full model review
This entry-level trim has plenty of kit and would be our choice. Electrically heated and folding door mirrors, automatic lights, cruise control, electric windows and 17in alloy wheels are fitted on the outside. Inside, there's dual-zone climate control, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats and Subaru's Starlink infotainment system complete with a 7.0in touchscreen display, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, DAB radio and a rear-view camera.
It's not a great drive, because this 2.0 petrol lacks sufficient shove for a car of this size. It's also very loud under any acceleration and you’ll be frequently stopping at the fuel pumps. For the price, it is best engine in the line-up, though, and the one we'd recommend if you really want a Forester.
