Review

There are more upmarket small SUVs, but the Suzuki Vitara is one of the most spacious and is great value for money. Stick with the entry-level 1.0-litre petrol engine and SZ4 trim for the best bang for your buck.

Trim: SZ5

SZ5 models, available with only the 1.4-litre engine, get lots of upmarket upgrades, including adaptive cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, 17in alloy wheels and front and rear parking sensors. It also gets a raft of safety kit, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blindspot monitoring and traffic sign recognition.

Engine: 1.4 Boosterjet

Offers a welcome amount more oomph than the 1.0-litre, but is much more expensive to buy and costs a reasonable amount more to run, too. We'd stick with the 1.0-litre.
