The front-wheel-drive diesel model makes most financial sense, but it’s still dirty and inefficient compared with most rivals. Insurance ratings are also relatively high, and you’re unlikely to get much back when you sell the car on.
Vauxhall Antara 4x4 quality & reliability
The Antara’s cabin looks and feels dated, and some of its controls are rather lightweight. What’s more, Vauxhall finished second from bottom in the 2012 JD Power customer satisfaction survey, and its record in our own reliability survey is similarly poor.
Vauxhall Antara 4x4 safety & security
The Antara comes with all the essentials, including stability control and front, side and curtain airbags. There’s also a hill descent system to help on slippery slopes, and four-wheel-drive models have a trailer stability program to aid safe towing. The list of security kit includes deadlocks, an engine immobiliser and locking wheelnuts.
