Which used Vauxhall Astra hatchback should I buy?

One of the advantages of buying a Vauxhall is the vast range of engine and trim levels you get to choose from, and the Astra is no exception. In fact, to the uninitiated, it can actually be quite daunting.

However, our favourite engine is the turbocharged three-cylinder 104bhp 1.0-litre unit. This smooth and flexible performer also offers reasonable economy, at a claimed 64.2mpg, which edges it ahead of the two more powerful 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engines.

Trims range from the well-equipped entry-level Design, with touchscreen infotainment, Bluetooth and cruise control, through Tech Line (aimed at the business user) and Energy, up to SRi, a semi-sporting but handsomely equipped trim that we think is worth splashing out for.

Our favourite Vauxhall Astra 1.6 CDTi 110 SRi Nav
