Review

The Vauxhall Insignia doesn’t excel in any particular area, but stick to the lower trim levels and it’s not a lot of money compared to other executive cars. Avoid the petrol models and it should prove cheap to run, although there’s no tax-busting plug-in hybrid model. Just remember that rivals are better to drive and even more practical.

A more luxurious alternative to similarly priced SRi VX-Line Nav, you get an 8.0in touchscreen, adaptive LED headlights, heated seats front and rear, 40/20/40 split folding rear seats, 18in alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charger and leather seats with electric adjustment, memory and massage for the driver.

Despite having much more power than the 1.5 Turbo D, it’s just as efficient according to official figures. We’re yet to try it, however.
