TDI 177 BlueMotion Tech R Line 4dr

  • Overall verdict 4/5
  • What it's like to drive 4/5
  • Running costs 3/5
  • Quality 5/5
  • Average MPG 43 mpg

I have just taken delivery of my 177 bhp BMT R-Line with DSG. My initial thoughts, looks great, DSG fantastic especially in tiptronic, Lights although not brilliant on main beam are great on dipped, interior quality is very good giving an air of luxury ( I opted for ambient lighting which is worth the extra ). Handling... not explored the limits yet but in normal mode feels pretty planted, steering a little light following the trends set by Mazda and their 6. Downsides...I'm taking it very easy while it's new before giving it any stick.. it's returning 43 mpg which is well below the 50+ I expected (previously had a few VAG 1.9 diesels which always averaged more and that was without the BMT !!) Time will tell if this gets better with the engine loosening..maybe it's the DSG. Oh and Boot ... got my large set of golf Clubs in with an electric trolley with it's wheels on... bit of a struggle with the depth though and a back problem!! Other notes .. with my Iphone Bluetoothed in playing music you can't select by Album/Artist..hard wiring via USB you can..odd that and a little annoying. SATNAV ... countdown to turns too short..maybe this can be adjusted but not found out yet. Will update review in a few months.

I have had this car for 6 weeks now and covered 5k, very pleased with it indeed. This Car is very quiet at all speeds, both engine, road and wind noise are very well suppressed. This car is far superior to my previous VW Passat in all the ways that count(although the boot is a tad smaller). The leather upholstery is superb quality nappa leather, even down to the contrasting stitching, the plastics are better quality, better than in some Audi's IMO. The interior chrome is actually chrome (not sprayed silver plastic) and the central dash is aluminium (not sprayed silver plastic). The car is quicker through the gears and pulls strongly when overtaking on A roads, it keeps surprising me! This car is a premium product... Very Pleased with It :o) Oh, and its looks are to die for!!

I run a Passat cc GT 140 on a 5 year lease, with maintenance. I took delivery in Sept 2011 and so have had it 15 Months. I can honestly find little to fault with it, it is silky smooth to drive and handling is excellent. I opted for the DSG gearbox which is simply fantastic. Despite opting for the lower powered 140BHP option for fuel economy reasons, I have been very pleasantly surprised at the responsiveness of the engine. In Sport mode especially, it becomes a different car, with the DSG gearbox using all of the revs (up to 5000rpm!) with astonishing push. I generally drive it more gently, but it overtakes briskly when needed. I opted for the park assistance, which combined with the parking sensors, makes parking very simple and accurate. The automatic handbrake is a delight, you can just forget about it - it comes on as you stop and releases as you pull away, seamlessly! I have done 15K miles so far and the engine is just running in nicely - returning 45MPG on mixed driving, but with a fair amount of short runs. Pretty impressive for an auto! The car looks simply stunning in my view, and is the equal of Audis, BMW's and in my view nicer than the Jag! I'm still waiting for the first service due at about 18,500K. Highly recommended.
