The VW’s low prices are on a par with rivals with less prestigious badges, although it can’t match them for equipment. All models fall into group 1 for insurance, while servicing costs should also be affordable. The petrol engine isn't as frugal as many rivals, but it still drinks gingerly.
Volkswagen Fox Hatchback quality & reliability
The Fox’s interior isn’t as classy as most larger VWs’, but it’s a cut above many of its rivals’ and has a solid, durable feel throughout. There’s a minimum of gimmicks to go wrong and the engines are already used in Polo models, so there's litte surprise that, in the 2011 JD Power survey, owners reported very few mechanical problems.
Volkswagen Fox Hatchback safety & security
The Fox falls short of many of its rivals in terms of safety kit. There are two front airbags, but side airbags are an extra-cost option, and neither curtain airbags nor stability control are available.
