Classy, comfortable and refined, the Passat is a genuine rival to the established executive carsread the full model review
A good option if you want lots of kit, but at this price the Passat is straying into the same territory as some more upmarket (albeit smaller and less well equipped) rivals. It comes with 18in wheels, a digital instrument cluster, leather and Alcantara upholstery and a panoramic sunroof. The most powerful petrol and diesel versions also get adjustable dampers and trapezoid exhaust pipes.
Engine:1.8 TSI 180
If you’re regularly lugging around plenty of people or just like a little more pace, this 178bhp 1.8-litre petrol engine might be tempting. It’s just as smooth and refined as the 1.4 units but pulls harder throughout the rev range. Just bear in mind that it’s quite a bit thirstier and will be more expensive on company car tax.
