Review

It’s no surprise that so many people buy the Volkswagen Polo. It leads the class in lots of areas, offering a great choice of perky engines, good space inside and the sort of ride you’d expect from a good family-sized car. And while it’s pricier to buy outright than some of its rivals, that’s offset to an extent by competitive monthly finance rates and strong resale values.

The Polo Beats gets a bespoke appearance and an upgraded Beats audio system. For you audiophiles out there, the system features an eight channel amplifier, a subwoofer and six speakers with a 300 watt output. However, the stereo’s sound isn’t as impressive as the Ford Fiesta’s B&O system, and unless a punchy sound system is your number one priority the Match remains our pick of the range.

It might only have three cylinders and 94bhp, but this engine has the best combination of performance, fuel economy and CO2 emissions. It feels easily strong enough in town and holds its own on the motorway, too.
