Review

The Volkswagen Sharan is a spacious seven-seat MPV that’s well equipped and good to drive. It might quite be as strong an all-rounder as the smaller and cheaper Touran, and neither is it as good to drive as the equally enormous Galaxy, but it’s still certainly worthy of consideration if you need a seriously big people carrier.

Trim: SE

SE Nav is the one to aim for, because it adds 16in alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, LED reading lights, a part-electric driver’s seat, rear parking sensors and adaptive cruise control.

Engine: 2.0 TDI SCR 150

Our pick of the range is the 148bhp 2.0 TDI SCR 150, because it has the ideal balance of pulling power from low revs – to get you up steep hills with all seven-seats occupied and a boot full of luggage – as well as decent straight-line performance. It’s also reasonably hushed during day to day driving.
