Review

The Volkswagen Sharan is a spacious seven-seat MPV that’s well equipped and good to drive. It might quite be as strong an all-rounder as the smaller and cheaper Touran, and neither is it as good to drive as the equally enormous Galaxy, but it’s still certainly worthy of consideration if you need a seriously big people carrier.

Trim: SE

SE Nav is the one to aim for, because it adds 16in alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, LED reading lights, a part-electric driver’s seat, rear parking sensors and adaptive cruise control.

Engine: 2.0 TDI SCR 177

The more powerful diesel has 175bhp and is badged up as the 2.0 TDI SCR 177. It is quicker flat out but doesn’t offer much of a bonus in terms of in-gear flexibility over the cheaper option, and it’s coarser. That means more noise around town and added vibrations through the controls and driver’s seat. It does quieten down on the motorway, though.
