Stick to the cheaper trims and engines and the T-Roc is a fine buy. Its soft ride and practical boot will appeal to families, while its high-set driving position is just what SUV buyers crave, and something that many other small SUVs fail to deliver. However, the cheaper Seat Arona offers better value, especially against the expensive range-topping T-Roc models.

Trim:

SEL

Features a driving mode button, 18in alloy wheels, sports seats, in-built navigation system, 10.3in Active Info Display (a digital screen that replaces analogue instruments) and LED headlights. We’d avoid this because it’s too expensive and the larger alloys hurt the ride.

Engine:

1.0 TSI

The 113bhp three-cylinder 1.0-litre is a big seller and, thanks to a turbocharger, proves surprisingly punchy, with the ability to hold its own on motorways and A-roads. When you factor in its keen price, we reckon it's the pick of the line-up.
