The Tiguan is a strong competitor in the family SUV class with great handling and a long equipment list. Other premium rivals like the BMW X1 are just slightly better finished, though.

Trim: SEL

This trim gains a few luxuries over SE, such as digital instrument dials, adaptive cruise control, even bigger alloys, a panoramic sunroof and some piano-black trim. It’s plush but rather pricey, so we'd recommend sticking with a cheaper trim.

Engine: 2.0 BiTDi 240 4Motion

This is currently the most potent Tiguan available. Powered by a twin-turbocharged diesel engine that’s also seen in the Passat, it offers serious pace with reasonable running costs. It's too expensive, though, partly down to standard four-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox.
