The Tiguan is a strong competitor in the family SUV class with great handling and a long equipment list. Other premium rivals like the BMW X1 are just slightly better finished, though.

Trim: SEL

This trim gains a few luxuries over SE, such as digital instrument dials, adaptive cruise control, even bigger alloys, a panoramic sunroof and some piano-black trim. It’s plush but rather pricey, so we'd recommend sticking with a cheaper trim.

Engine: 2.0 TDi 150

This is the best engine in the Tiguan range. It’s affordable, offers a decent amount of punch and fuel economy is reasonable. CO2 emissions are acceptable, too, making this the most sensible choice for company car drivers. An auto ’box and four-wheel drive are optional.
