The new VW Tiguan offers generous space for occupants, a big boot and fine driving manners, but its higher costs count against it. A Skoda Karoq is better value, while the Volvo XC40 can be had for the same cost as a mid-rung Tiguan. For private buyers, the 1.5 TSI 150 Life is the one to go for, while company car drivers will be better off with the eHybrid.

This is the most luxurious Tiguan, and is fitted with heated and massaging front seats, larger 19in wheels and a heated steering wheel.
The engine
This higher powered version of the eTSI engine produces 148bhp and trims the 0-62mph time to 9.1 seconds. Top speed remains 130mph.
