The VW Touareg is practical for five people, has plenty of luggage space and is good value in the lower trim levels, but its interior quality and ride comfort lag behind rivals'. It also lacks the flexibility of seven seats. We recommend looking at the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Land Rover Discovery as better all-round packages.get the best price
The trimSee full equipment
This trim adds 14-way electrically adjustable front seats (with memory function), keyless entry, a 15.0in infotainment touchscreen, the 12.3in digital instrument cluster and high-beam assistance over the R-Line trim. It’s expensive and we’re not fans of the larger touchscreen.

If diesel isn't your thing then what about the 335bhp 3.0 TSI petrol? It's by far the smoothest engine, staying creamy and quiet all the way from idle to maximum revs. And if you use all the revs it's fast, too — 0-62mph is done in 5.9sec — but it mimics the diesels by pulling strongly from low down as well. Really only a BMW X5 40i petrol betters it for pace among its equivalents. Expect around 27mpg at the very most.
