Review

The VW Touran is roomy, practical, very well built and good to drive. It's a bit more expensive than the Citroën C4 Grand Spacetourer, but worth the extra – especially when you factor in the huge discounts that are available. The 1.5 TSI petrol is our top pick and we'd recommend SE or SE Family trim to keep the price down.

Trim: SE

Gets you 16in alloy wheels, automatic lights and wipers, all-round electric windows and adaptive cruise control. There are also a number of very reasonably priced options, which is why this is our favourite trim.

Engine: 2.0 TDI 115

The less powerful version of the 2.0-litre diesel engine has 114bhp. It lacks some of the TDI 150’s low-down shove and feels a little more sluggish when pulling away from traffic lights.
