Even better-equipped, sportier-looking and still reasonably priced, R-Design is our favourite. It adds sports seats trimmed in leather and nubuck, power-folding door mirrors, privacy glass and multicolour ambient theatre lighting.
The cheapest way into the Volvo XC40 lineup. The entry-level 1.5-litre petrol engine is aimed at those doing relatively low miles who drive mostly in town. It needs to be worked hard to get motorway-merging performance, so we'd definitely look further up the range for something more powerful and better suited to the XC40.
