The model
Read full reviewIt might be some time since we voted the multitalented Volvo XC40 our Car of the Year, but it still cuts the mustard. It blends generous passenger space and a practical boot with a quality interior and top-notch safety. That means you aren't only buying a hugely desirable product, but one backed up with real substance. Just be aware that the plug-in hybrid Recharge versions aren't as good to drive as regular petrol models.

See full equipmentTemptingly priced, but you'll have to do without quite a few useful features that you’d get with our preferred Momentum trim.
The engine
See full engine specsWe haven't tried this engine yet, but seeing as the more powerful T3 has just enough power, this is likely to feel sluggish. It does have the same 1600kg towing rating as the pokier T3, however.
