The model
Read full reviewIt might be some time since we voted the multitalented Volvo XC40 our Car of the Year, but it still cuts the mustard. It blends generous passenger space and a practical boot with a quality interior and top-notch safety. That means you aren't only buying a hugely desirable product, but one backed up with real substance. Just be aware that the plug-in hybrid Recharge versions aren't as good to drive as regular petrol models, but will reduce your company car tax bill.
get the best priceThe trim
See full equipmentInscription trim pushes up the price, but not unbearably so; if you fancy some luxury, you might well be tempted. Full leather upholstery, metallic paint, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, front parking sensors, a powered tailgate and wood trim inlays all come as standard.
The engine
See full engine specsThis plug-in hybrid model is worth considering for its low CO2 emissions and its ability to drive on pure battery power for around 21 miles, based on our testing. It’s pretty quick when you put your foot down, too, with 0-60mph taking just 7.1sec when we timed it, but some rival plug-in SUVs have a better range – officially it's 28 miles but we managed just 21 miles in real-world driving. Its maximum towing capacity is 1800kg.
