Review

It might be some time since we voted the multitalented XC40 our Car of the Year, but it still cuts the mustard. It blends generous passenger space and a practical boot with a quality interior and top-notch safety. That means you aren't only buying a hugely desirable product, but one backed up with real substance. There are however better plug-in hybrid SUVs out there, should you be considering a T5 Recharge.

Trim: Momentum

You get cruise control, keyless start, dual-zone climate control and a 9.0in tablet-style touchscreen with sat-nav, a DAB radio and Bluetooth. You also get digital instruments, 18in alloy wheels, LED headlights, driver and passenger electric lumbar adjustment and rear parking sensors. Well worth a look.

Engine: 2.0 B4P

This 2.0-litre petrol engine packs almost 200bhp, so acceleration is surprisingly nippy. However, it's also quite pricey to buy and you'll be spending a lot at the pumps. The cheaper T3 makes a lot more sense. This engine only comes with an automatic gearbox, but does give you the option of four-wheel drive. Both versions will tow 2100kgs.
