It might be some time since we voted the multitalented Volvo XC40 our Car of the Year, but it still cuts the mustard. It blends generous passenger space and a practical boot with a quality interior and top-notch safety. That means you aren't only buying a hugely desirable product, but one backed up with real substance. Just be aware that the plug-in hybrid Recharge versions aren't as good to drive as regular petrol models.get the best price
The trimSee full equipment
Our favourite trim. This adds seats trimmed in leather and suede, power-folding door mirrors, a powered tailgate, privacy glass and multicoloured ambient interior lighting to everything you get with cheaper Momentum trim. You also get sports suspension, which delivers a better-controlled and more comfortable ride.

This 2.0-litre petrol engine packs almost 200bhp, so acceleration is surprisingly nippy. The best option is the cheaper and more fuel-efficient front-wheel drive version, because when you add four-wheel drive the fuel consumption gets a lot worse. The cheaper T3 makes a lot more sense.
