It might be some time since we voted the multitalented Volvo XC40 our Car of the Year, but it still cuts the mustard. It blends generous passenger space and a practical boot with a quality interior and top-notch safety. That means you aren't only buying a hugely desirable product, but one backed up with real substance. Just be aware that the plug-in hybrid Recharge versions aren't as good to drive as regular petrol models, but will reduce your company car tax bill.get the best price
The trimSee full equipment
Our favourite trim. This adds seats trimmed in leather and suede, power-folding door mirrors, a powered tailgate, privacy glass and multicoloured ambient interior lighting to everything you get with cheaper Momentum trim. You also get sports suspension, which delivers a better-controlled and more comfortable ride.
The engineSee full engine specs
This 2.0-litre petrol engine packs 194bhp, so acceleration is surprisingly nippy with 0-62mph taking just 8.4sec for the front-wheel drive model. That's the best option, because it is cheaper and more fuel-efficient than the four-wheel drive version. The B4 is a good engine and well worth considering if you need a bit more oomph than the T3 provides.
