The multitalented XC40 is so good we named it our 2018 What Car? Car of the Year. It blends practicality traits, such as good passenger space and a very practical boot, with comfort, a quality interior and a top-notch safety rating. That means you are not only buying a stylish product, but one backed up by substance, too. Overall it's a better family SUV than a BMW X1 or X2, but check out the Range Rover Evoque before you buy, which is a fine car and the XC40’s strongest rival.get the best price
Even better-equipped, sportier-looking and still reasonably priced, R-Design is our favourite. It adds sports seats trimmed in leather and nubuck, power-folding door mirrors, privacy glass and multicolour ambient theatre lighting. It's worth adding a few options, though, such as the excellent Convenience Pack that includes keyless entry, a powered tailgate, power-folding rear seats and multiple other practicality aids, along with the Intellisafe Pro pack that adds additional safety aids and semi-autonomous driving.
Engine:2.0 D4
Noticeably more muscular than the D3 and T3 engines, this D4 engine is also quicker than an equivalent diesel Volkswagen Tiguan. The XC40 offers stronger, more flexible performance at low revs, so it's definitely worth considering if you want a bit more power from your family SUV, but it does push the price up. Only available with an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.
