Every Lexus LM comes with the same 2.5-litre hybrid engine and gives you 247bhp to play with. Even so, even the fastest of the LM’s versions, the Takumi, can only manage 0-62mph in 8.7sec. That shouldn’t be an issue, though, the LM is more than quick enough for everyday driving.

While it might be the entry-level trim, the LM comes with loads of standard equipment, including 19in alloy wheels, a head-up display and a Mark Levinson stereo with 21-speakers. The main difference between the LM and the top-spec Takumi is actually the number of seats – the LM gets seven, while the more luxurious Takumi only has four.

If you’re after absolute luxury, Takumi is the way to go. Instead of being a seven-seater designed for airport trips, for example, this four seat version is focused on transporting a couple of people like they’re on a private jet. It does this with huge and comfortable rear captain’s seats and a massive 48in high definition screen.

In the same way that Infiniti acts as Nissan’s premium arm, Lexus has a similar tie-in with Toyota. And since most of Toyota’s models are offered as hybrids, it’s no surprise to see the same from Lexus, although there are some traditional petrol engines, too.

The brand focuses heavily on SUVs – namely the NX and RX – but also has the CT hatchback, ES executive saloon and LS luxury car among its portfolio. More small and large SUVs are expected in the future.

Like Toyota, Lexus has built a very strong reputation for reliability and regularly finishes very close to the top of our annual Reliability Survey.
