Polestar hints at future models with new Formula 2030 concept
New concept car previews design for upcoming 2 and 7 models

Due to be fully unveiled in October, the concept will represent the future of Polestar’s design under new boss Philipp Römers, who joined the company in January last year.
“Polestar’s design and brand is already so strong, it was obvious we needed a bold evolution not revolution of what came before,” said Römers.
The concept displays many design cues that will feature on the next-generation Polestar 2, which will arrive next year, as well as the new Polestar 7 small SUV, which will rival the likes of the BMW iX1 and Range Rover Evoque when it arrives in 2028.
Both of those models, like the concept, will don a variation of Polestar’s ‘dual blade’ daytime running lights (DRLs), designed to evoke Thor’s hammer. Unlike on previous Polestars, the new DRLs straddle the space where the headlights sit. The concept also seems to have an S-duct – a device that directs airflow through the front grille to improve aerodynamics.

The concept has a noticeably low, wide-set stance, with angular lines and cambered front wheels that look like they’re tilted away from the body.

The Polestars 2 and 7 will form the latter part of a four-model offensive from the Swedish brand, all arriving by 2028. This will be spearheaded by the launch of the Polestar 5, a four-door grand tourer that will act as the brand’s ‘halo’ car, followed by the new Polestar 4 SUV, an estate car variant of the brand’s big-selling coupé-SUV.
It’s expected that the 2 will take on a longer, sportier shape for its next generation. It’ll sit on brand new underpinnings but will continue to be built in China.
Meanwhile, the 7 will use the same SPA3 underpinnings as the new Volvo EX60, but they will be tweaked slightly in line with Polestar’s focus on performance. That car is offered with up to 671bhp and can officially travel up to 503 miles in its most efficient form.

These new models will be key to transforming Polestar into a profitable carmaker. The company made a net loss of $842 million (£623m) in the first half of 2026, though this was an improvement of 29% on the year before. It puts this down partially to restructuring for the US market as a result of the country’s ‘Connected Vehicle Rule’, which restricts sales of cars with components linked to China. With Polestar being owned by Chinese giant Geely, it’s expected that these restrictions will continue to affect future financial results.
Part of the Swedish brand’s key strategy for growth will be to boost sales from 60,000 in 2025 to 100,000 per year.
