Loads bigger: the new C-Class estate - Safety

More than 70% of the C-Class estate's bodyshell is made of ultra-high-strength steel to improve passenger protection in an impact.

In addition, the front end has been developed into four separate energy absorption areas to spread forces in an accident.

Seven separate airbags come as standard, as do seatbelt tensioners and belt force limiters, which give optimal restraint in the course of an accident. Crash-responsive head restraints reduce whiplash injuries.

Integrated child seats come as standard, and fold out of the rear bench. They also now feature wraparound head restraints.

Standard fixtures also include flashing brake lights, brake assist, stability control and tyre pressure monitors in order to help prevent accidents.

An optional system called Pre-Safe is available. It senses an impending accident and prepares the vehicle's safety systems for a collision in order to reduce the forces that could injure occupants.
