I’ve just seen something thoroughly depressing: a man from Renault coming to the What Car? car park to take the Megane Renaultsport away. Yes, my year with the Renault is up and I can honestly say I’ve never been more sorry to see a long-term test car go.

Not only was the Megane brilliantly fast and fun on road and track, it was surprisingly easy to live with every day. Whether it was a trip across town or a long motorway schlep, I rarely got out wishing I’d been driving something more comfortable or quiet, and often with a huge grin because it was simply a fantastic thing to drive, whatever the journey. That’s my abiding memory of the best long-termer I’ve ever had.
