Reliability survey - Fiat

01 November 2004
17th out of 26
Claims per 100 vehicles 34.2
Average age 4.03 years
Average mileage 37,172
Average repair cost £270
Average time for repair 3.23 hours

Fiat reliability is very much an open field, showing no clear pattern. There are wide extremes either side of the average figure, with both models of the Punto (’94-’99 and ’99-) the only two models close to it.

Worst was the Cinquecento - the oldest Fiat on Warranty Direct’s books - with almost half of its owners needing to make a claim, and the Coupé wasn’t far behind. In contrast, the Bravo, Brava and Marea fared far more impressively - indeed, the Bravo was the 21st best car in the survey.

Perhaps the only surprise was that, although Fiat had the ninth cheapest repair costs, only six makes took longer, on average, to fix.

Verdict
You’re best off avoiding older or sporty Fiats.
