What Car? Reader Awards 2010 - Small family cars

18 November 2010
Winner
Skoda Octavia

It's two victories on the trot for the Octavia – you’ve voted it your number one small family car for the second year running. In a mixed result for VW Group cars, the Golf-based VW Jetta and Seat Leon secured second and third spots, but the ageing Beetle came last.

Your reader reviews...

‘I needed something more sensible and spacious to replace my old Honda Civic. After reading reviews of the Octavia’s 1.4 TSI engine I was sold, and six weeks into ownership I’m very impressed. The Octavia is comfortable, and a pleasure to drive. The engine has more than enough grunt.’

The full results are here...

‘This is a quality car. It has so much space in the boot and is comfortable beyond belief.’
James Cox 2.0 TFSI vRS

‘This car gets better and better! I bought it four years ago and have racked up 57k miles. My car has the semi-automatic DSG gearbox, which makes light work of my commute yet allows plenty of fun on the twisties. It hasn’t put a foot wrong in all the time I’ve had it.’
James Mair 2.0 TDI Elegance

‘Quality is superb, performance is all I could ever want and I’m averaging 52mpg! I used to be a badge snob – having owned BMWs – but no longer’
Stephen Craft 2.0 TDI CR 170 vRS

Worst in class Volkswagen Beetle
‘I’d always wanted a Beetle, so was thrilled to bits when I became a teacher and could finally afford one. However, my car has been repaired nine times already, and it’s not even two years old! Shame, because otherwise I love it, and it gets loads of looks.’
Dayna McDonald 1.6 Luna
