Bought car with 7000 miles when a year old (the car not me). Sporty drive and practical with 6 in family and a dog. Apart from routine servicing very little maintenance - Cd/radio had to be replaced after approx 25k miles. Now done 51k miles on a 02 plate. Set of tyres last about 25k and it`s easy to spin the front wheels when moving off.Set of brake pads last about 30k miles. Only real concern is that now we have a "whining" noise from the engine area which seems to be speed related and is getting so loud you can`t hear the passengers in the back! Local Honda dealer Alan Day have agreed to check it out for a fixed fee of £47 to cover 30mins labour even if it takes them 3 hours to investigate which seems reasonable. Considering updating it but to what? Test drove a Mazda 5 but middle seat in rear is a joke - test drove a Toyota Verso 1.8 petrol as we only do a low mileage but it`s shorter and wife didn`t like the high windscreen which she found difficult to see over. Hoping to test the Honda FRV soon as we like the Honda reliability to date even though it has only 6 seats. Can`t understand why they stopped making the Stream!!
I have owned this car for nearly five and a half years and must say it's a fantastic car. It handles like a sports car if you hustle it, but fuel economy even when driving like a nun isn't that great. Running costs are OK, but it goes through tyres every 15000 miles and front brakes wear quickly too. Must say that I've found Honda's servicing costs very reasonable. I've not had a problem with the driving position as some people say and have driven the car 300miles in comfort. The car's done 66000 miles and the only problem I've ever had with it was a reverse selector problem when the car was just out of warranty, but Honda met most of the cost. I test drove a Vauxhall Zafira and a Mazda Premacy at the same time as I bought it and this drove head and shoulders better than those two.
Why did they sell only 4000 of these?
So so smooth to drive, and yet so roomy. It's a car that seats 7 people. Simple as that. The kids love it. This car is awesome.
We have had this car for 3 years now and it remains an utterly trouble free and faithfull family workhorse. I think Honda designed a great car here which offers something to everyone. It has excellent road holding, swift performance with the vtec engine and easy to use controls. It can also sit 4 adults and two children with comfort and easily copes with their extra weight. In normal use the boot is huge. Where it only falls down is on long journeys where it has a lot of road noise, and the seats aren't particularly generous or relaxing. Based on it's utility, however, it's the best car we've ever owned. A real unsung hero.
