Fiat 500X to have same level of customisation as other 500 models
* 500X mini-SUV to have many customisation options * Contrasting roof and two-tone paint finishes offered * Reflects 'different customer' to the rest of the 500 line-up...
The new Fiat 500X will offer the same level of customisation as the original city car, Fiat bosses have revealed, although you may need to ask your dealer before the full range of options becomes available to you.
The 500X was launched at this week's Paris motor show with a more conservative set of colours and add-ons than is normal for the 500.
However, Fiat brand director Gianluca Italia told What Car? that the firm still plans to offer customisation on its new SUV, albeit slightly further down the buying process.
'The 500X is a more grown-up product than 500,' he said, 'but we expect that some customers will still want to add their personal touch to the car. We know this from the 500L, which is also a bigger car but where we can't make enough examples with two-tone paint finishes [a contrast colour roof option is offered].
'So, I think you will see more subtle 500Xs in showrooms, but the salesman will still have all of the options available to the customer once they are further down the line with purchasing. It's a small difference but one that we think reflects a slightly different customer; the 500X won't be a cheap car, so we want to present sophistication.'
The difference in approach reflects Fiat's target audience with the 500X. It's likely to be pitched against everything from conventional family hatchbacks like the VW Golf to Mini's Countryman SUV.
