    My car

Unfortunately, I only owned my used 106 for six months before it was sadly written off in an accident, so I feel I can give judgement on the result of the crash.

The car was pretty badly smashed up as it was a head-on at about 30mph, but myself and the passenger were fine and the airbag deployed no problem. So, all in all, the car performed better than expected.

The only bad bit about the car was a leaking roof where the aerial is fixed. Driving wise, the car is spot on for a 1.5D with only 60bhp and is fairly nippy and grippy in most situations.

The gearchange is nice and the engine, which is shared by the Citroen Saxo is quieter. The interior is well equipped in the Zest 3 with plenty of kit. I didn't use a main dealer and a service cost me just £60. Well recommended.

    My car

    We have a Peugeot 106 Independence 2000 - X plate.

Well it's just passed its second MOT, just needed front discs and pads at £90 - not bad but then it was a non dealer - £140 + vat!

Just taken back to garage as there is a tapping noise from the engine... not good news - a piston slapping about? I've been advised to get rid of car before the problem gets worse or the cost to repair is more than a new engine!

We have had this car since new and as a second car run-about it's not been bad on costs. However this news about the engine is not great and has really let the Pug name down for me, considering its only done 56,000 miles.

My mum's Micra is a similar car and is a year older. If I compare both cars for driving and costs, the Micra wins every time.

My advice... a good little car but beware of the latter costs as they could mount up. Find one that's hardly beern driven!

Would we buy another one... No! Dealers could do with improving customer service and PRICES!

    My car

This little diesel has been a brilliant commuter workhorse.

It’s a mk1 1527 d Mardi gras. The suspension is a little on the soft side but the road holding and ability to soak up bumps and imperfections is good. The engine is a little agricultural but it’s more powerful and economical than the 1.1cc version and I can’t see one of them lasting 200,000+ miles.

The one major criticism is the foot-well: the pedals are far too close to each other. But I’ve found I’ve adjusted my driving to suit and the actual driving seat is nice and supportive. Also, the controls are arranged in an logical position.

My car's done just under 70,000 miles and still going strong. I’ll update this review around the 90,000 mile mark. I hope this review is of some use.

    My car

The Peugeot 106 is a fun car to drive, with low running costs. However, I've had terrible service from the Peugeot dealers and the build quality and refinement are below par.
