New Mazda 6 models planned

  • Insiders reveal Mazda 6 plans
  • Four-wheel-drive version…
  • …and VW Passat CC-rivalling coupe mooted

Mazda insiders have revealed plans for two new variants of the Mazda 6

The all-new Mazda 6 could be joined by two new variants; a four-wheel-drive version and a VW Passat CC-rivalling four-door four-seat coupe, insiders have revealed to What Car?.

Speaking just before the Moscow motor show, a senior engineering source revealed that an all-wheel-drive version was being seriously considered. Such a model is seen as crucial for sales and in Northern Europe and the USA. However it won't necessarily be sold in the UK.

A four-wheel-drive 6 is likely to harness the same lightweight drive system as the CX-5 SUV.

The 'CC' coupe variant could be on sale as early as 2014, according to senior insiders. It would be mechanically identical to the saloon and use the same Skyactiv diesel and petrol engines.
